Controlling for Geographic Dispersion When Estimating the Japanese Phillips Curve
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper argues that estimation of the Phillips curve for Japan should take account of the geographic dispersion of labor-market conditions. We find evidence that the relationship between wage inflation and the unemployment rate is convex. With such convexity, wage inflation can occur when unemployment rates across regions become more disperse, even if the aggregate unemployment rate is unchanged. We show that controlling for the geographic dispersion of unemployment rates yields a flatter Phillips curve and a higher natural rate of unemployment. JEL: J6, E2

The harmful effects of chronic high inflation in the economy led the governments and country’s monetary authorities seek to reduce or eliminate this phenomenon. Therefore it’s very important to predict how inflation moves providing an appropriate economic model is a crucial factor to forecast inflation, so on. In this regard, in the present research, we attempt to generate a appropriate model f...
متن کاملA Two-Phase Robust Estimation of Process Dispersion Using M-estimator
Parameter estimation is the first step in constructing any control chart. Most estimators of mean and dispersion are sensitive to the presence of outliers. The data may be contaminated by outliers either locally or globally. The exciting robust estimators deal only with global contamination. In this paper a robust estimator for dispersion is proposed to reduce the effect of local contamination ...
متن کاملApplication of NRCS-curve number method for runoff estimation in a mountainous watershed
The major problem in the assessment of relationships between rainfall and runoff occurs when a study is carried out in ungauged watersheds in the absence of hydro-climatic data. This study aims to evaluate the applicability of Natural Resources Conservation Service-Curve Number (NRCS-CN) method together with GIS in estimating runoff depth in a mountainous watershed. The study was carried out in...
متن کاملMoving dispersion method for statistical anomaly detection in intrusion detection systems
A unified method for statistical anomaly detection in intrusion detection systems is theoretically introduced. It is based on estimating a dispersion measure of numerical or symbolic data on successive moving windows in time and finding the times when a relative change of the dispersion measure is significant. Appropriate dispersion measures, relative differences, moving windows, as well as tec...
متن کاملSome Improvment in the Estimation of Population Mean in Cluster Sampling
Gupta and Shabbir (2008) have suggested an alternative form of ratio-type estimator for estimating the population mean. In this paper, we introduced new estimators by mixing two, stratified and cluster sampling method. Then we improved these estimators by using auxiliary variables and introducing new estimators. For sampling in infinite populations with a high geographic dispersion, the populat...
